Callaway Staffer Sergio Garcia lands historic victory at the 100th edition of the KLM Open
CHESSINGTON, UK, September 15, 2019 –
Callaway Staff Professional Sergio Garcia made history on Sunday by becoming the 100th winner of the KLM Open in Amsterdam on his debut.
Trusting a full bag of Callaway and Odyssey equipment, Garcia showed courage and experience as he overturned the back-nine lead of #TeamCallaway colleague Callum Shinkwin in breezy conditions to land his 16th European Tour title.
Garcia put on a powerful, controlled display from tee to green throughout the week, employing his Epic Flash Sub Zero Driver, Epic Flash Fairway Woods and Apex MB Irons to impressive effect, finishing third in greens in regulation (83.3%).
When the pressure was on down the final stretch, the Spaniard turned to his Mack Daddy 4 Wedges, landing and stopping two precision approaches at the 15th and 16th, resulting in birdies and a one-shot victory.
With rounds of 68, 67, 66 and 69, Garcia was delighted with his performance: “I played well all week under pressure. Today wasn’t easy, it was quite breezy and the wind was blowing in a different direction again so it wasn’t playing easy at all, but I played nicely again.”
