– South African staffer Christiaan Bezuidenhout triumphs at his home Open to become the first player for three years to win back-to-back European Tour titles –
(Chessington, UK – December 7, 2020) Callaway and Odyssey equipment powered Staff Professional Christiaan Bezuidenhout to his second straight win on the European Tour – a feat that has not been achieved by any other player for three years.
Fresh from his Alfred Dunhill Championship victory, the 26-year-old proved there is no place like home by claiming a dominant 18-under par, five shot victory at the 110th South African Open played at Sun City.
Christiaan is now an incredible 32 under par for his last two tournaments and has won over €413,000 in two stellar weeks of play. He also now leads the season-long strokes gained statistics, is 5th in strokes gained around the green, and 5th in strokes gained, putting.
Mirroring his back nine putting performance of his previous tournament, Christiaan holed a host of key putts using his Odyssey Works Big T #5 Putter, carding consecutive birdies on the 10th, 11th and 12th holes to stake his claim on the prestigious Open title.
From the winner’s circle, an elated Christiaan commented: “Making birdie on those three holes was massive. The second putt on 11 was huge and obviously the putt on 12 was a bonus, as I just tried to get it close, inside a couple of feet, and made it.
“It’s unbelievable to stand here with an Open win. It’s any South African golfer’s dream to win a national tournament. It’s unreal.”
Full of confidence, he now goes into the season finale, the DP World Tour Championship, in the top five of the Race to Dubai standings.
