Branden Grace wins prestigious South African Open with an incredible final round 62

(Chessington, UK – January 13, 2019) Callaway Staffer Branden Grace lived up to his ‘Mr 62’ moniker after equalling his Major record low score in the final round of the South African Open to claim his ninth PGA European Tour Title.

The South African posted the lowest ever round in Major Championship history in 2017 at The Open, and he equalled the feat across Johannesburg’s Randpark Golf Course after shooting a scintillating fourth round that included a quartet of back-to-back birdies across the final nine holes.

Branden’s Odyssey Toulon Atlanta Stroke Lab Putter was on fire, needing only 22 putts through the 18 holes – carding eight birdies and an eagle! – to take the title by three shots and collect the €175,296 winner’s purse.

The 31-year-old’s gamer putter features Odyssey’s innovative multi-material Stroke Lab shaft which is designed to help improve the tempo and consistency on every putt. Branden also had a strong week around the greens – he had an 83.3% scrambling rate with his Callaway JAWS MD5 Wedges.

He was among the first Callaway staffers to put JAWS MD5 in the bag, and these wedges feature the new JAWS Groove, and Groove-in-Groove Technology, to deliver excellent spin and control around the greens.

Said Branden after winning his fourth PGA European Tour title on home soil: “This is the one I wanted. I’ve won the Dunhill, the Nedbank, the Joburg Open and Dimension Data Pro-Am – and this is the one I really wanted to get my hands on. It being the second oldest event in the world means a lot and it also means so much to win it in South Africa in front of the home fans.

“I played flawless golf today and I can’t remember the last time the putter was that hot. This win kick starts it all, what an exciting year it is going to be.”

Branden was also using a set of Callaway’s Apex Pro 19 Irons. They provide soft feel from a forged 1025 mild carbon steel body along with proprietary Urethane Microspheres. The 360 Face Cup provides fast ball speeds in a Tour performance iron, and in the short irons the spin-control VFT Face promotes pinpoint shot-making.

It wasn’t just Branden who was on a roll as Callaway Drivers picked up 48% of the prize money on offer (more than both the #2 and #3 brands combined), whilst Odyssey Putters secured an incredible 59% of the total prize fund on offer to cement it’s position as the clear #1 Putter in Golf.
